Meetings and Workgroups

SECCHI Consortium Meetings

There have been 6 SECCHI consortium meetings, most with topics pertinent to space weather or with separate space weather sessions.

  • 1st SECCHI consortium meeting at Easton, MD, November 2000

  • 2nd SECCHI consortium meeting at Abingdon, UK, July 2001

SCIENCE OVERVIEW

SUMMARY

  •    How and why does the Sun vary?
  •    How do the planets and Earth respond to that variation?
  •    What are the impacts for humanity?

For decades, the search for answers to these fundamental questions has preoccupied solar and space physicists and has driven the plans for all Sun Earth Connections (SEC) missions.

MISSION OVERVIEW

The importance of coordinating the observations, as well as their analyses, can hardly be overemphasized. We have never before had an opportunity to observe from two well-separated viewing points. The stereoscopic techniques and their results will be entirely new; we can expect to be learning while observing. Furthermore, the opportunity will not be a static one, as the viewing characteristics will change continuously with the growing separation angle between the two spacecraft.
